Exporting sauces, instant noodles and ready meals to Poland
Producers of sauces, pastes, seasonings, instant noodles, rice products and shelf-stable ready meals.
In short
- Plant-based sauces and noodles take the simple customs route. Meat or meat extract in a seasoning sachet changes everything: the meat must come from an approved country and plant, with a certificate and a border check.
- Egg noodles and products with milk are composite products: usually a private attestation from the importer, no border post.
- Since 23 July 2026 shelf-stable sauces with oyster or fish extract are on the list of composite products exempt from border checks.
- Ethylene oxide, 3-MCPD in frying oil and undeclared allergens (soy, wheat, sesame, crustaceans) are the usual problems.
Instant noodles: check the seasoning sachet
Many instant noodle and ready-meal recipes contain chicken, beef or pork powder or extract. In the EU this makes the product a composite product containing meat, which may come only from a country and plant approved for that meat, with an official certificate and a check at a border control post. Few Asian countries are approved for meat products, so many brands sell an EU recipe with vegetable, seafood or artificial flavourings instead. Check the recipe before you quote a price.
Noodles made with egg, and products with milk powder or butter, are composite products with processed egg or dairy. Shelf-stable ones normally need only a private attestation signed by the importer.
Sauces, pastes and seasonings
- Fish and oyster sauce. Shelf-stable sauces containing oyster or fish extracts were added to the list of composite products exempt from border checks from 23 July 2026 (Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/908). The fish ingredient must still come from an approved country. Ask your importer how their veterinary office treats products that are mostly fish.
- Soy sauce is tested for 3-MCPD when made by acid hydrolysis; the EU limit is in Regulation (EU) 2023/915.
- Chilli and curry pastes inherit any pesticide residues, aflatoxins or dyes (Sudan dyes are banned) from the dried chilli and spices in them.
- Flavour enhancers such as E621 (MSG) are allowed with limits; check colours and preservatives for the “sauces” category.
Ethylene oxide and frying oil
In 2021 several brands of instant noodles were recalled across the EU because ethylene oxide was found in seasoning ingredients. Ethylene oxide is not allowed for any use in EU food, so ask your spice and additive suppliers for test results. Noodles fried in palm oil are also checked for 3-MCPD and glycidyl esters.
Label points that are often missed
- Vegetable oils must be named by plant: „olej palmowy” (palm oil), not just “vegetable oil”.
- Allergens in bold in the Polish ingredient list: wheat (gluten), soy, sesame, crustaceans, fish, egg, milk, celery and mustard are the common ones in Asian sauces.
- The nutrition table must show salt, not sodium.
- Preparation instructions in Polish.
