Exporting food from Indonesia to Poland
Indonesian food and FMCG manufacturers looking at Poland.
In short
- The EU–Indonesia CEPA was concluded in 2025; entry into force is expected in early 2027. Until then the standard EU duties apply, reduced for some products under the EU's GSP scheme.
- Coffee, cocoa and palm oil from Indonesia fall under the EU Deforestation Regulation from 30 December 2026.
- Almost half of the EU alerts on Indonesian food concern spices, mostly aflatoxins and ochratoxin A.
- Much Indonesian food reaches Poland through importers in the Netherlands and Germany: a direct Polish importer can be a real advantage.
What Poland buys from Indonesia
The EU–Indonesia trade agreement (CEPA) is expected to enter into force on 1 January 2027, with lower EU duties on many food products.
- Direct food imports from Indonesia are still small: the largest line, cashews and coconuts, was €8.6 million in 2025.
- Palm oil grew from €0.1 million in 2021 to €2.8 million in 2025; cocoa butter appeared in 2023 and reached €1.8 million in 2024.
- Shrimp and other crustaceans grew every year, from €0.14 million to €0.78 million.
- These figures count only goods cleared through customs in Poland. Indonesian food cleared in Rotterdam or Hamburg and resold to Poland is counted as Dutch or German trade, so Polish buyers use more than the numbers show, mostly through other EU importers.

In 2026 so far, 5 shipments from Indonesia were stopped at the EU border. The most common reasons for EU food alerts, 2020–2025 (number of alerts):

Duties now and after CEPA
Until CEPA applies, Indonesian goods pay the standard EU duty or the reduced GSP rate where Indonesia qualifies; GSP requires a statement on origin by an exporter registered in the EU's REX system. CEPA will remove duties on most goods, some in stages. Check your code in Access2Markets and follow the entry-into-force date in our Regulatory digest.
