Exporting food from Thailand to Poland
Thai food, drinks and FMCG manufacturers looking at Poland.
In short
- There is no EU–Thailand trade agreement yet: talks are in the final stage. Thailand does not qualify for the EU's GSP scheme, so the standard EU duties apply.
- Canned pineapple and other fruit preparations, sauces, rice, noodles, biscuits, tuna and drinks are Poland's main food imports from Thailand.
- Most EU alerts for Thai food are pesticide residues on fresh produce and herbs, and Salmonella in poultry; additives are a frequent issue in mixed foods.
- Thai poultry products are one of the few Asian meat products approved for the EU, which matters for ready meals and noodles with chicken.
What Poland buys from Thailand
The EU and Thailand are negotiating a trade agreement; Thailand aims to finish the talks by the end of 2026. Until then the standard EU duties apply.
- The largest food line is prepared fruit and nuts (HS 2008, which includes canned pineapple): €16.0 million in 2025, close to the 2022 peak after two weaker years.
- Sauces and seasonings reached €5.7 million in 2025. Rice more than doubled, from €2.3 million in 2021 to €5.1 million.
- Direct food imports from Thailand are modest. Thai food cleared in Rotterdam or Hamburg and resold to Poland counts as Dutch or German trade, so Polish shelves carry more than these numbers show.
